Greetings From Amsterdam

Greetings from Amsterdam and let the tour begin ๐Ÿ™‚

just-arrived

That is me arriving at Schipol airport this morning in Amsterdam looking tired and worn out (though gotta appreciate my spirit as I am still smiling LOL)

It was an early morning flight at 6am from the UK.

All through Sunday night I was on the coach to the airport and spent 5 hours on the road to get to the airport so excuse the tired looking (but smiling) Austin ;).

Checked in to the hotel and caught a bit of sleep.

Then I woke up, had lunch and first thing I did was to get on the bike.

You can’t visit Amsterdam in summer and not cycle.

Cycling is the way of life here in Amsterdam. Its history goes back to the early 20’s and back in 1960’s cycling was used as a socialist symbol by artists of that time.

According to what I read about Amsterdam, by getting on a bike you prove yourself as a free spirited citizen ๐Ÿ™‚

Next, boat ride. Amsterdam is known for its canals. Did you know that 165 canals surround the city of Amsterdam? If you don’t know, now you know like the late notorious B.I.G would say LOL.

The best way to see the city of Amsterdam is to get on a boat and then you will truly appreciate the beauty of this ancient city.

Now I don’t know about you but I love a good night life. Last time I was here I visited some bars and clubs and I will be doing the same on this trip.

If you are in need of a good night entertainment, Paradiso is the place to go. This place is lively, with different rooms for all sort of music. I like all sorts of music but my favorites are hip hop, R&B, gospel, dancehall and Afro beats (No surprise here, I’m a black dude LOL).

Last time I was in Paradiso and while I was wondering through the different rooms of music, I went into a room and behold, everyone with their partners dancing salsa.

Boy I fell in love LOL . It’s beautiful and damn sexy. I had no clue what to do so I simply evacuated the room but damn I would love to learn how to dance salsa so if you are reading this and you are a salsa dance teacher please get in touch ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m not into arts but my friend on this trip is so I will be going with him to see some museum. Amsterdam is known for its rich art works and museums. Museum ons’ lieve Heer Op soider is a good one I heard. If you want to visit a world class art museum, then Rijksmuseum is your destination.

Renovatie-Rijksmuseum

Another attraction is Vondelpark, which is very famous for picnics, there are canals around it and its simply amazing.

And what would a tour guide from yours truly be without telling you about what Amsterdam is known for? Oh yes! The infamous red light district of course. If you are into looking at girls posing in a glass window and doors then visit the red light district. I was there last time I visited Amsterdam walking around just to see what the whole fuss was all about but I won’t be going this time around. I’m not into stuff like that ๐Ÿ˜‰

I call Amsterdam modern day ‘Sodom and Gomorrah’. I mean, literally everything is permissive here. Prostitution is legal, smoking weed is legal. They even have shops they called “coffeeShopsโ€. Last time I was in Amsterdam, my friends were talking about coffee shops, I thought they meant like a shop you go into to drink coffee like we have here in the UK. I didn’t know when you say coffeeShop in Amsterdam, they mean a shop you go into, buy weeds and smoke LOL. I don’t smoke, not even a cigarette let alone weed but if you are into smoking and all that stuff, then Amsterdam is your best friend.

Lastly, one thing I would like to do before I head out to Prague in few days time is to visit the Amsterdam historic churches. I heard the Oude Kerk is a good one. If I visit, I will post pics here.

Other places to visit while in Amsterdam if you are into classical and jazz music is to visit muziekgebouw aan’t IJ. You can catch classical and jazz concerts here.

My next stop, Prague. I have never been to Prague so I don’t know what awaits me but if I find anything interesting in Prague, I will give you a tour guide my friends.

If you made it to this part, thank you for reading this blog post.

Keep chasing your dreams. This is why I do what I do, to have freedom to travel and explore places when I want and how I want. I’m so thankful to God for this life I live.

Till next time.

  1. Thanks for the photos and tour comments!! I have been to Amsterdam twice, stayed for weeks. It has been a while, but art museums were free on Tuesday, loved them. Go on a Heineken tour and get to taste for free. Go to the diamond cutters tour, but no free samples. Just fun buying bread + cheese and sitting on a park bench or near a canal. Do show us photos of Prague too! Get some sleep on the plane?

  2. Austin,
Thanks for the virtual tour! It looks like you know where to go and find the best places on tour.

Please post pictures of Prague. I haven’t been there yet.

    Best,
    Todd

    1. I will get some Prague Pictures up. I didn’t do much there apart from segway tour and visiting Charles Bridge haha

  3. Two of my favorite cities! Next time in Amsterdam, you gotta take a free boat behind Centraal Station to Amsterdam Noord and explore. Typical tourists never go there. Prague – kind of like a scruffy version of Amsterdam. Taking the entire route of a public tram is a great intro to Prague, outside of the usual tourist stuff.

  4. Hi Austin,
I just got Profits Play few minutes ago.
I like your story (blog profile).
I wish you continued success in life
    Take Care

  5. I am glad you liked Amsterdam! I do happen to live there since 3 years, and I completely agree with Watch the cyclists!
